Little Green Thumb

The weather was so nice today that we spent a lot of time outside, sitting on the porch swing, walking around the block, and getting some work done on the yard. We bought some tomato, green beans, and strawberry seeds, and brought them all home to plant. Anastasia picked out the strawberry kit herself. We also picked out a peach tree for the back yard.

Anastasia was pretty interested in planting the seeds. Annie was pretty fascinated by the seed starter pods, and really liked watching them absorb the water as she poured it. Then it was time to put the seeds in: tomatoes in one row, beans in the other.

The strawberrys came in a kit that included a cute bucket with soil and seeds. Annie wasn't interested in playing in the soil, but once it was time to water it, she was on the job. Here she is with the finished product.

We'll keep an eye on the plants over the next couple weeks and provide updates as they start to grow.

Painting a picture for Mommy

I had an enjoyable birthday. Orlando took care of Annie early in the moring, and gave me the complete collection of ABBA cd's.

My present also included a recorded card with Annie singing Happy Birthday to me. Then, she decided she wanted to paint me a picture.

She was very intent on her work.

And, she was very proud of the finished product.

Later, I went to the restaurant for a couple happy birthday drinks with Orlando. All in all, a pretty fun day.

Snow Day!

Yesterday was Anastasia's first snow day! We got about 6 inches of snow, and Annie's daycare was closed, so I stayed home with her and we got to play inside and outside. From the moment she woke up, she couldn't stop talking about the snow. So, we got up and got dressed, and headed out to play.

Our little girly-girl immediately picked up on the the fact that snow sticks to your shoes and pants. She was not pleased by this particular feature of the white stuff. We got into the yard and I laid down to make a snow angel. Anastasia was not impressed, and insisted that I get up. So we moved on to picking up the snow and throwing it. She thought the snow was dirty, and got a little bothered that it was stuck to her mittens. Mostly she had fun, though.

After about 15 minutes, Anastasia asked to go inside because her pants were getting wet. I managed to get a one more great picture before we went inside.

When we got inside, Anastasia insisted that her pants had to come off immediately. They were wet, and she wanted nothing to do with them. I asked her if she wanted to go out and play in the snow again, and she said "No, I want to go to the grocery store."

The rest of our snow day was pretty much spent inside: shopping for dinner, visiting with Daddy, and painting two very pretty pictures before making dinner. No nap, and still Annie was a fun kid for the whole day. Maybe next winter we'll have a snow day before March.
