A Surprise Visitor

Sandi called me Sunday evening and asked if I could juggle my schedule for Tuesday morning to spend a little time with her oldest son, Andrew, who would be flying in with his dad late on Monday night. I worked it out with my boss to take the day off, and I met Andrew at the airport and drove him home to DC. He was pretty psyched.

Anastasia was so excited to get to see her cousin, and was even willing to give up a day at summer camp to visit with him. They were up with the sun and playing from one end of the house to the other with great abandon.

After going over the options available to us for the morning, Andrew selected the museum with Dinosaurs and Butterflies (also a pretty big hit from when his sister Ashley was here.) We left early and Andrew got his first ride on a the Metro.

Waiting for the museum to open, I managed to get a picture of Andrew looking very much like his uncle Chris.

Once we got inside, we went straight to the Butterflies where Andrew and Annie worked together to figure out what we were seeing.

While we were waiting for the doors to open, we got early bird tickets to the Dinosaurs in 3D, which the kids were pretty excited to see. So, after a quick snack, it was off to the movies where Anastasia taught Andrew her preferred method for wearing glasses.

Andrew's dad was ready to start the long drive back to San Antonio when we got back from the museum. So, it was a quick goodbye then time to hit the road.

We wish it could have been a longer visit, but we certainly tried to make the most of the short time we had. Andrew is already planning out what he wants to do the next time he's here.
